A 14 year old boy of Zambia Compound in Kafue has died after a crocodile snatches him from a Guava tree along the banks of the Kafue as he tried to pluck guava fruits.
Kafue Police Officer In-Charge Jason Lungu confirmed the incident but could however not give further details of the ordeal.
Sources close to the matter told Kafue Times that the deceased identified as Arnold Hamoonga together with his friend were sent to Naluama across Kafue River to deliver some goods at around 07:00hours.
Around 13:00hours, Arnold and his friend started off from Naluama village, but before they crossed the Kafue Railway Bridge, the deceased saw some guavas on a tree along the banks of the Kafue river and decided to pluck two from the tree.
Anord's friend discouraged him from climbing the tree whose branches were in contact with the water as it's surrounding appeared dangerous but the deceased insisted that he wanted to pluck only two guava fruits.
Few minutes after Anord climbed the tree, his friend heard him scream and he saw a crocodile which had caught the deceased spinning in the water and later disappeared.
A report was made at Kafue Police Station and Marine Police Officers embarked on a search for Anord's body but could however not yield the desired results.
